HEROES RUN - A BRIEF HISTORY

James and Matt 2005
James + Matt 2005

HEROES RUN is the flagship event of the charity passingiton. passingiton was set up in 2004 by Matt Lambert and James Macdonald after having run the Dublin marathon dressed up as Batman and Robin. At the time we were raising money for the Tenderfoot school in Nairobi to buy all the children there a pair of shoes. After really enjoying the marathon (especially the dressing up bit) we decided to set up a charity to help expand the Tenderfoot school with the addition of 6 classrooms.

And so passingiton was born. But how would we raise the money? Well, we love fancy dress, enjoy running and live in Brighton. HEROES RUN was the obvious solution: Hundred of people running along the seafront dressed as a superhero to raise thousands of pounds to to help build schools in Africa. Simple.

The first HEROES RUN (then The Superhero Challenge) was humble by today’s standard. Still, we managed to persuade 241 people to join us for a run and that was all the encouragement we needed to keep this little event going.

Year after year HEROES RUN has continued to grow. In 2009 HEROES RUN had over 1500 runners and raised over £30,000.

Six years on from the Dubln Marathon passingiton have fully expanded the Tenderfoot school in Kenya (£60,000 total), set up a new build for the Dreamlands school in Ghana (£110,00 over 5 years) and are about to start a new £125,000 project in conjunction with the Fresh Start Foundation to build a learning/community centre for the Kwinella First school in Kwinella, Gambia.

We are still only a handful of volunteers working hard because a) we believe 100% in our causes and b) we love it! For details of all three passingiton projects check out our official charity website. Here you can see exactly where all your money goes.
