Raise money online - Take on our 10 minute challenge
Major obstacles to child survival in this region include poverty, lack of access to education, infections, malnutrition and the risks of abuse and exploitation. Such children commonly contribute to household income by working as street vendors; in turn this deprives them of education, leisure and general childhood activities.
The most disturbing consequence of this lack of opportunity has been the growth of sex tourism. In a recent survey carried out by UNICEF, 10% of street children admitted having been paid for sex. 75% did not use protection. In a culture of silence around such issues, the figure is likely to me much higher.
New target: Every penny raised from here on in can go towards completing the Dreamlands Junior School build in Akumadan, Ghana. We have already funded the entire build of the Primary school and toilet block and are currently £8,770 short of the £33,000 needed to complete the Junior school.
Imagine if all 1300 runners got involved. If each of us raises £10, we'd absolutely smash our fundraising target!
We know that fundraising can double, triple or even quadruple in the days leading up to an event so here's the challenge. Set up an online fundraising page, spread the word to everyone you know via email, Facebook, Twitter, text or even in person - and then see what comes in!
HEROES RUN WORKS. 1,000's of superheroes can and do make a profound change to the lives of children who otherwise would not have the chance of an education.
