Frequently Asked Questions

How fit do you have to be? Do I have to run?

The vast majority of people entering will not be serious runners. Please don’t worry, there will be plenty of people to keep you company. The Heroes Run is all about taking part so if you run, jog, walk or crawl, we really don’t mind. The important thing is that you’re there with us on the day.

When should I enter?

As early as possible as there are only 1500 places free for the 10km and 5km combined and 300 places for the kids 500m DASH. The closing date for entries will be Sunday 2nd May 2010.   We would like enough time to safely send your race pack which should arrive 4-6 weeks before the race day.

How do I apply?

To enter online go to click the ENTER RACE tab at the top of the page. You can also download the entry form from this page and send it with a cheque made payable to “passingiton” to:

Heroes Run 2010,

Flat 3 Marina Court
407 Brighton Road
Lancing
West Sussex
BN15 8JX

How secure is the website?

All payments through our site are processed using PayPal and use their industry standard security measures.

What happens if I enter online?

When you enter online confirmation of your race entry will be displayed in your web browser and you will also receive confirmation of your payment from PayPal.

A number of us want to enter by entry form. Can I send one cheque to cover the lot?

That’s absolutely fine. Just make sure your friends pay you back! We will still need individual entry forms filled in ny each entrant.

Is there an age limit?

There is no maximum age limit, the present record stands at 87 . You will need to be 16 or over to run in the Heroes Run 10k Challenge and 13 or over to compete in the Heroes Run 5k Challenge. That said you will need to be 18 or over to use the online entry procedure. Any runners under the age of 18 who want to run either the 5km or 10km must download an entry form from the Heroes Run website and get their race form disclaimer counter signed by one of their parents. Mini Heroes under 8 years must be accompanied by a parent / guardian who will then be responsible for that child for the duration of the event. Competitors aged 8-15 years can run the 500m dash unaccompanied

ILL or injured?

You should not run if ill or injured for your own safety. You cannot give your number to someone else in your place. This is for insurance reasons.

I can't take part. Can I get a refund?

Sorry but we cannot give refunds. From the moment we start to organize the Heroes Run, we start to incur costs and your entry fee is invested into the cost of staging the event – barriers, toilets, numbers, insurance, medals, cups, water etc.

Can someone else run instead of me?

No. They can’t for health & safety and insurance reasons. We need to know exactly who you are via your number in case of an emergency.

What time should I arrive at the venue?

Aim to get there at least an hour before the start of the Heroes Run, so 10am ish. If you are wanting to help us set a new Guinness World Record for “The most people dressed as Superheroes in one place” I would advise you to be making your way to the seafront for 9am to 9.30am.This will leave you enough time to get parked up and also allows you enough time to use the loo’s and take in the Heroic atmosphere.

Can I run with my friends?

Feel free. There is one race start for the 10km and the 5km so you can line up with your friends and go around together. The 10km route is just two loops of the out and back 5km route.

What is the route?

For both the 5km and the 10km the race starts opposite Adelaide Crescent (500 metres West of The Brighton Peace Statue and The Meeting place Café). From the start the Heroes Run 10km and 5km runners will both run up to Hove Lagoon. All runners will turn at a 2.5km marker point before returning to the Start/Finish line. The Heroes running the 5km race will then Finish. The runners who are running the 10km race will loop around a marker by the Start line and run back up to the 2.5km marker level with the Lagoon before returning to the Finish line.

This is just a guide. The exact course is soon to be confirmed. As a result of our growing numbers of runners we are going to be tweaking the course a little in 2010 along with the advice of Brighton and Hove city council. This samll change will allow us to better accomadate 1500 adult runners. The bove description atleast gives you a sense of where the course is located.

I am a wheelchair user. Can I take part?

Yes it would be great to have you taking part in our event.

Can I bring a buggy or a pushchair?

Yes it would be great to have you taking part in our event but we would ask that you please start at the back of the field so as not to run over any other Heroes feet. Hulk’s not nearly as tough as he likes to make out.

What to wear?

Comfortable clothing and footwear is important. If you intend to jog or run, we recommend you wear footwear designed for that purpose otherwise you risk injury. Please note – no skateboarding, rollerblading, cycling, inline skating etc, will be allowed on the course for health and safety reasons.

Do I need extra water?

Last year was a scorcher and whatever the air temperature is, in a lycra suit you can add at least 20 degrees. There are water stations provided on the course but if you are happy to carry a water bottle it may not be a bad idea.
